Legendary, cattle baron Charles Goodnight understood that on a long cattle drive you needed a wagon that could haul all the essentials that the cowboys would need for the drive. This included water, food, bedding, cooking utensils, coffee pot and a good whiskey. What made Charles Goodnight’s protype wagon the standard for all self respecting wagons in the future, was the “Chuck Box”. It was at the rear of the wagon with a hinged lid that let down on a swinging leg to form a work table. The box was honey combed with drawers and cubbyholes. This allowed the cook to store his utensils and whatever food he might need for the day.

The wagon shown in the drawing is an exact replica of Charles Goodnight’s wagon, built and owned by Dennis Dodson of Cast Iron Cuisine. The original pencil drawing by Tom Greenwood was commissioned by Jack Daniel’s Distillery. Limited Edition print, one of 6 in a series
